My Story
My name is Eleanor Sheen, a student at Loyola University Chicago, where I’m pursuing a double major in Advertising/Public Relations and English. Originally from Portland, Oregon, I came to Chicago with a love for storytelling and a curiosity about what this big city had to offer me. Since then, my experiences in the classroom, workplace, and even abroad have shaped how I approach communication: with a genuine interest in the people behind every story.
A Little About My Experience
As an Event Supervisor at Loyola University Chicago, I help coordinate campus events and support the day-to-day operations of university spaces. From assisting with event logistics to working alongside staff and student organizations, I’ve learned how thoughtful planning, adaptability, and teamwork contribute to successful events. The role has given me opportunities to solve problems in real time while helping create welcoming experiences for the Loyola community.
At Loyola’s Writing Center, I work as a writing tutor, helping students develop their ideas, strengthen their arguments, and become more confident writers. Each session is an opportunity to approach writing from a different perspective and help others find their own voice.
I also completed an Events and Operations Internship with Chicago Association Management, where I gained hands-on experience supporting event planning, coordinating logistics, and assisting with organizational operations. Working in a professional association management environment helped me understand how communication, organization, and attention to detail come together to support events and build relationships with members and stakeholders.
Stories and Places
My love of reading and writing has always influenced the way I see the world. I’m especially interested in storytelling, whether it appears in a novel, a film, a marketing campaign, or a conversation with someone whose experiences differ from my own.
Studying abroad at Loyola’s John Felice Rome Center gave me a new perspective on what it means to connect with people and places. Living in Rome, exploring unfamiliar streets, practicing Italian, and meeting people from different backgrounds pushed me beyond my comfort zone. The experience reminded me that some of the most meaningful lessons come from being willing to listen, ask questions, and embrace the unfamiliar. It also left me eager to continue exploring different parts of the world and building connections across cultures as I further my passions in International PR.
Outside of school and work, you can usually find me watching a movie, listening to music, browsing a bookstore, or writing a review on Letterboxd! I love discussing what makes a film memorable, from its cinematography and soundtrack to the stories it chooses to tell. I’m also a fan of physical media, especially collecting CDs and putting together playlists that capture a particular mood or moment.
